The Gallagher Premiership is the top flight of domestic Rugby Union in England. There are *10 teams in the league with the majority based in Southern England, with the Sale Sharks & Newcastle Falcons being the exceptions. The champion is decided by a post-season playoff competition that consists of the top four placed teams from the regular season. This format is used to counter-balance the effects of the top teams releasing their best players for up to 2 months during the regular season for the six-nations tournament.

The Leicester Tigers are the most successful team with 11 championships' followed by Bath Rugby & Saracens with six each.

The premiership dropped from its intended 13 teams to *10 teams during the 2022-23 season owing to Wasps, Worcester Warriors and London Irish falling into financial difficulty and being denied entry into the competition. Despite this there will still be a potential relegation in the 2023-24 season via the Championship Winner vs. Premiership Loser 'decider' game, although participation in this match for the Championship winner is subject to them satisfying stadium requirements.
