Snapshot of the EPL
The English Premier League is the top flight of English Football and consists of 20 teams. It evolved from the old first division in 1992 and since then a total of 51 teams have competed in it. Of the 31 ex-premiership teams most are now in the Championship but some teams are scattered around in League's 1 and 2 and one (Oldham Athletic) has dropped to the 5th tier. There are only six teams that have never been relegated from the English Premier League, and of that group, Manchester United is the most successful, has the largest fan base, and the biggest stadium (Old Trafford has a capacity of 75,000). The average attendance across the English Premier League is 38,000 (pre-COVID) and the stadiums are on average 98% full for every match.
